What is GMS®?

Making up PHRASES, SENTENCES, and STORIES to aid in the process of memorization is not used in GMS®. the GMS® does not use any emotional manipulation techniques and holds to the stance that emotions have nothing to do with memorization but, rather, only complicate its process. Welcome to the Giordano Memorization System, created in 1990 by Vladimir A. Kozarenko. It is the most developed and practical system of memorization. It is specifically designed for efficient memorization of everyday information as well as the information we encounter while studying different subjects. Unlike other memorization systems, GMS® is free of excessive procedures and inefficient techniques. GMS® is the result of a lengthy, systematic research. Its practical basis is the combination of principles of classic mnemonics and elements derived from the Giordano Bruno memorization system. The theoretical foundation is an original model of memory, developed on the basis of a modern conception of the quasi-holographic nature of the brains' work. Different mnemonic techniques, derived from various systems of memorization around the world, have been systematized and refined and now integrated to become a master system which complies with three main criteria: simplicity, universality, and efficiency. “Simplicity” means that the methods of memorization are not only easy to master, but also “transparent” with regard to understanding the principle of their use. By “universality” we mean that the system allows a student to memorize almost any type of information. The “efficiency” aspect guarantees that the practitioner will have full control over the memorization process as well as retention of the information in memory. GMS® is primarily aimed at the memorization of logically interconnected information, such as phone numbers and addresses, names, precise dates, geographical locations, anecdotes and encyclopaedia data, texts, written lectures, and speeches. The system also allows you to effectively remember seemingly unrelated and illogical information – sets of words, random numbers, maps, and any combination of letters. The majority of people do not understand that mnemonic techniques are just a small part of the knowledge needed to actually be able to memorize efficiently. The skill of memorization is obtained through the consequent mastery of each individual technique, bundled with additional psycho-technical exercises meant for the development of visual thinking and achieving stability of attention. Also important is gaining meticulous control of nutrition, which influences not only the mind’s ability to work but also a person’s general health as well. Mastering GMS® is like mastering an instrument-based skill. Learning to use GMS® may be compared to learning stenography. In order to develop a skill, one needs to do a lot of exercises. It is impossible to master GMS® without doing the exercises. After the skill is formed, a person may choose to use it or not use it at all. Information will not get memorized by itself. To memorize something, one needs to use the formed memorization skill - a sequence of mental actions that lead to information fixation in the brain. The quality of memorization can be compared to copying files to different folders on a computer. The memorized data can be reproduced in direct, reverse, and random orders without recalling other unrelated information contained in memory. The duration of time for which you store the information in your memory is fully controllable. It can be memorized for only an hour or saved for a lifetime. One can memorize newer information over the older and, thereby, be in control of what is erased and what is retained. Computer technology has opened the door to unlimited amounts of data. You can buy a CD with thousands of photos on it. One disc can contain 15,000 literary works. Bookstores have stacks of books with information available to us, BUT… our brains' capacities and abilities remain the same: too many people cannot take in all this information. It is not because of a lack of money, but because of the inability to work with information, read quickly, and memorize. A tremendous gap has been observed over the last few years between the development of technologies and the our brains' ability to assimilate the resulting volumes of data. GMS® will considerably increase your ability to study new subjects and will give you the ability to keep up with technological progress. So, what is GMS®? It is a system that gives you the ability to accumulate large amounts of precise information in your brain. It is the conserving of time during memorization process, a process which you fully control. It is storing the memorized data in your memory: you will not have to rememorize what you have previously memorized. It is an intense training of your attention span and thinking. It offers a real chance to master several trades and become a professional in your field of work. It gives you the ability to use information because it is always available to recall. It is like finally having a sort of advanced gymnastics for our brain – the brain needs to be stimulated and trained otherwise it will atrophy. Different authors purport very different memorization techniques. The more inefficient memorization techniques are convenient in that they are easy to learn, which can be useful in rapid studying. In order to use efficient memorization techniques for ALL data, one needs to master all of the tools - image codes, support images system, memory, and mnemonics theory. All of this requires time and effort.
Any memorization techniques could be called mnemo-technical since mnemonics is a memorization technique itself. However, I would not confuse different mnemo-technical methods with GMS®. Presently, GMS® is a truly integrated study discipline with a separate theoretical foundation and a set of very distinct concepts and techniques.
